Most people only think about their online security after something has gone wrong, and putting it right can take weeks. Our Password & Security MOT and Service is a one-off home visit where we put the right protection in place on your computer, phone and online accounts, making it much harder for scammers and criminals to get in.
WHAT WE DO
- Your email account. If someone gets into your email, they can reset the passwords on everything else. We’ll give it a strong password, switch on two-step sign-in and update the recovery details. We’ll do the same for your Microsoft, Apple or Google account.
- Passwords. We’ll set up a password manager, either a dedicated one or the one built into your web browser, and change any reused passwords on your important accounts, such as email, banking and shopping. If you’d rather use pen and paper, we can help you set up a proper password book instead, and can supply a purpose-designed one for £10.
- Your computer. We’ll check that Windows updates and Microsoft Defender are on and working, and remove unwanted programs, including any remote-access tools left behind after a scam call.
- Your web browser. We’ll remove unwanted or suspicious add-ons, put your search engine back to normal and stop pop-up notifications.
- Your broadband router. We’ll check it’s up to date and not still using its factory password.
- Your phone. We’ll check the screen lock, updates and Find My, and switch on call and text spam filtering.
- Backups. We’ll check your photos and documents are being copied somewhere safe.
- Scam awareness. We’ll register you with the Telephone Preference Service, give you a short run-through of how to spot scams, and leave printed copies of the relevant free guides.
- A written summary of what we did and where your passwords are kept.
PRICE
£119 for a home visit covering one computer and one phone, with up to three hours of our time. Most visits take between two and three hours. If you have another computer or tablet, we can include it in the same visit.
If there’s more to do than we can fit in, we’ll let you know and agree any extra time with you before carrying on.

Please have your phone to hand, along with your email password and any other passwords you know. Don’t worry if you can’t find them all, as we can help you reset them.
